Tar Heels Celebrate Girls And Women In Sports
The group of girls had attended the event before. Still, when UNC celebrated the 32nd annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Sunday at Fetzer Gym, each one arrived just as excited about spending the afternoon with Tar Heel student-athletes from nine women's sports teams. Perhaps the largest crowds formed around the rowing station.
Three Tar Heel Volleyball Players Earn All-ACC Academic Honors
The ACC announced its All-Conference Academic Volleyball Team on Wednesday, with three Tar Heels honored for their achievements. Senior Beth Nordhorn, junior Taylor Leath and freshman Katharine Esterly were each recognized after posting a grade point average of at least 3.0 in their most recent semester and maintaining a similar GPA throughout college.
James Michael McAdoo Helps Deliver Baby
Former UNC forward James Michael McAdoo and his wife have a story to tell. McAdoo's wife, Lauren, posted on Instagram on Tuesday that the couple had a baby New Year's Eve. The child was delivered at their house after only four hours of labor. The couple's midwife didn't arrive in time, so McAdoo himself acted as the midwife to help bring the new life into the world.

Former Tar Heel forward James Michael McAdoo had an interesting New Year's Eve. He and his wife, Lauren, a former UNC volleyball player welcomed their first child, a daughter. Here's the twist: Little Sawyer Ray McAdoo decided she was in a rush. So much so that the couple's midwife never had time to get there, so James Michael and Lauren handled the delivery themselves.
UNC Volleyball Assistant Eve Rackham Named Head Coach at Tennessee
Longtime UNC volleyball assistant Eve Rackham was named the new head coach of the program at the University of Tennessee on Wednesday, after spending the last nine seasons on staff in Chapel Hill. Rackham has been the assistant head coach under Joe Sagula since 2013, and has been responsible for both recruiting and the team’s offensive development.
A Christmas wish list for UNC athletics
It’s been a great year for UNC athletics. There’s been a national championship in men’s basketball, a couple of Final Four appearances for men’s soccer and field hockey, a national seed for baseball, a national runner-up finish for men’s tennis, and a handful of conference championships. Beth Nordhorn, Taylor Leath Named All-ACC Volleyball
UNC volleyball players Beth Nordhorn and Taylor Leath were named All-ACC on Monday. Leath earns her second All-ACC selection after being named ACC Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team and AVCA All-America Second Team last season. Nordhorn enjoyed a spectacular final season with the Tar Heels, solidifying herself as one of the most efficient offensive players in UNC history.
UNC Volleyball Falls at Duke in Season Finale
The 2017 regular season came to a disappointing close on Friday, as North Carolina fell to Duke, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The win moved the Blue Devils into a tie with the Tar Heels for eighth place in the ACC standings, each finishing the year 11-9 in conference play. Duke closed the 2017 season at 19-12 overall, while UNC finished at 14-14.
Twenty-One Blocks Not Enough In UNC Volleyball's Loss To Wake Forest
North Carolina stuffed an unprecedented 21.5 blocks behind a career-high 11 stuffs by senior Beth Nordhorn and a triple-double with 10 blocks by freshman Holly Carlton, but a season-high 28 attack errors handcuffed the Carolina offense, as the Tar Heels fell to Wake Forest, 3-1. The win marked the first for the Demon Deacons over UNC since 2009.

Paris Kea Living Up To The Hype, UNC Olympic Sport Notes
As the North Carolina women's basketball team has navigated a 2-2 start, Paris Kea has lived up to the hype that landed her a spot on the preseason All-ACC team. Averaging 25.3 points through four games, Kea leads the ACC in scoring. She also ranks fourth in the conference with a 58.8 shooting percentage. But she's excelled in other areas, as well.
UNC Comeback Falls Just Short in Volleyball Thriller in Louisville
North Carolina erased an 0-2 deficit to force a deciding fifth set at Louisville on Sunday, but the Cardinals held on to win, 15-11, to take the match, 3-2. It was the second time this season that the Tar Heels returned from trailing two sets to none against the Cardinals. With the win, Louisville remains tied for first place in the ACC at 22-6 (16-2 ACC), while UNC falls to 14-12 (11-7 ACC).
Carolina Volleyball Drops Road Trip Opener to Notre Dame
North Carolina's road woes continued on Friday night, as the Tar Heels opened their final road trip with a 3-0 loss at Notre Dame. Carolina entered Friday's contest on a four-match winning streak after completing a perfect 10-0 home ACC campaign, but UNC has struggled on the road, capturing just a single victory away from home. UNC falls to 14-10 (11-6 ACC).
Ex-UNC football player's estate sues ACC, NCAA over concussions
Representatives of a former North Carolina football player's estate are suing the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA, saying they ignored the dangers of concussions and it led to Ryan Hoffman's death. Sandra LaMountain and Noah Hoffman brought the 39-page lawsuit on behalf of Ryan Hoffman's estate and filed it Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Greensboro.
Hadden LaGarde to Join UNC Volleyball in January
UNC volleyball is pleased to announce that incoming freshman Hadden LaGarde has accepted her admission to the University of North Carolina. She intends to enroll in January to begin training with the Tar Heels this spring. No stranger to UNC, LaGarde is the daughter of former Tar Heel Tom LaGarde, who played men's basketball for Carolina from 1973-77.
