If this Virginia bill is passed, cursing at the ref will cost you up to $2,500
Posted Jan 22, 2018
One Virginia Delegate wants to make it illegal to curse, abuse or use violent language toward sports officials, refs, umpires, timekeepers and scorekeepers. The proposed penalty? A Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine up to $2,500. A 2006 bill that mandated a $1,000 fine for battery against a ref failed, as did a similar bill in 2016.
