Long before Derryck Thornton, Andrew Wiggins and Nerlens Noel, the switch from high school junior to college freshman basketball star was made by a guy who remains a household hoops name in these parts. What’s more, it hardly even qualified as a hot sports news topic at the time. The player was eventual Duke all-American center Mike Gminski, and the year was 1976.
