Curbing college basketball timeouts, physical play more important than 30-second clock

As someone who has followed and/or chronicled college basketball for nearly 50 years, I am strangely ambivalent regarding the shot clock – more on that in a moment. Conversely, I am among the legions agitated by incessant stoppages in play, and therefore offer a standing ovation to the rules committee, chaired by Belmont coach Rick Byrd, for the following recommendations, sure to be approved next month by an oversight panel.
