Jason Ray, the 21-year-old who performed as the North Carolina mascot, was remembered Thursday as a young man so full of life that his friends weren't surprised that he was selected to wear the Tar Heel ram costume. "He was one level — that was all out really," said Russell Campbell, 25, of Concord. "He was really very animated."
