On This Day in UNC History: September 6


September 6, 1986: UNC 45, Citadel, 14 - Sophomore reserve tailback ran the ball 23 times for a career-high 216 yards and the first two touchdowns of his college career as North Carolina beat The Citadel, 45-14, in UNC's 1986 season-opener at Kenan Stadium.

Fenner's 216 rushing yards set the UNC record for most yards gained in the opening game of a season. Starting running back William Humes also accounted for two first-half touchdowns as the Tar Heels totaled 401 yards rushing on 55 carries.
