Starter's foot kicks Heels in the gut

The same injury that kept Trimane Goddard out of spring practice has struck again. This time, it will likely cost North Carolina its starting strong safety for the entire 2006 season. Goddard, the Tar Heels' leader in interceptions a year ago and a key player in this year's secondary, fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during a non-impact flexibility drill Saturday. Dr. Tim Taft will perform surgery today at UNC Hospitals to repair the broken bone. (Greensboro News & Record)
