Gerald Ford's N.C. connections include stint with Tar Heels

Long before he occupied the White House, Gerald Ford was briefly a North Carolina resident and helped coach the Tar Heels. The nation's 38th president, who died yesterday at the age of 93, attended law school at the University of North Carolina during World War II, then attended Navy preflight school at Chapel Hill in 1943. The archives also say that Ford helped coach North Carolina's football, boxing and swimming teams while he attended preflight school.
