In an effort to remain optimistic, past failure has been glossed over at both UNC and N.C. State. Neither have won an ACC championship in the lifetime of any current players, nor has either received a berth to a BCS bowl game. UNC, has not ended the season rated in the top 25 since 1997. Also, the Tar Heels have been to two bowl games in the past nine years.
