With a breathtaking football game undecided, East Carolina coach Skip Holtz told his struggling kicker a corny joke. When Ben Hartman responded with a joke of his own Saturday night, Holtz knew he was relaxed despite missing three of his first four field goal attempts. Moments later, Hartman drilled a 39-yard field goal between the uprights on the final play at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium to edge North Carolina 34-31.
