Coach Bill's Video Evaluation: Shabazz Muhammad

Each day this week, former college basketball coach and Tar Heel Times contributor, Coach Bill, will offer his insights into several of UNC's top-rated basketball recruits. Today he analyzes 2012 shooting guard prospect (6-5, 185, Las Vegas NV).

What is on display in the below footage, and is always recognizeable when takes the court is the epitome of an elite, consistent scorer. Even before his versatile scoring package, Shabazz always brings a competitive spirit that represents a "quiet storm." He is a lefty who consistently takes advantage. As is evident in his video clips, Shabazz has the terrific athleticism and relentless attack-the-rim mentality to be a force in transition. He will dunk with authority or draw fouls in the open court with regularity.

In the half court, he relentlessly advances his position with the goal of entering the lane for high percentage shots and/or drawing fouls. Muhammad also demonstrates a strong post-up game that is as polished for a wing player as I have seen in a long time. His left handed jump-hook release would make most true post players jealous.

What has taken his offensive arsenal to an elite level, however, is the significant growth of his outside shot. He has a very fundamental release and in my opinion can now be considered a quality three-point shooter. As a coach, I've often preached how high level basketball is a game of "skill and will". has both in excess which translates to a potential college All-American caliber performer and a competitor that could lead a team to a Final Four.
