North Carolina vs. Miami Postgame Notes


UNC Football claimed a nail-biting 27-24 ACC Coastal Division victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla. Here are notes and stats from the Tar Heels' victory.   • The victory gives UNC three-straight road victories for the first time since the 2016 team won its first four away games that season. Carolina already had road wins at App State and Georgia State this season.
  • UNC improves to 13-11 against the Hurricanes and has won four-straight games over the Hurricanes, the longest winning streak by either team in the series that dates to 1946.
  • is 270-140-1 all-time as a head coach, including 95-64-1 as UNC’s head coach.

  • Since 2000, Maye joins Jameis Winston (2013) and Kenny Pickett (2021) as the third ACC player with 20 or more total TDs through six games.
  • had a team-high six receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown. He leads the team with five receiving touchdowns this season, while his 16 career TDs are tied for 10th in program history with (2008-11). Downs has 15 touchdowns in his last 18 games.
  • hauled in a career-long 74-yard reception for a touchdown on UNC’s opening drive and finished with 80 yards on two receptions.
  • started at running back for the second-straight game and had a career-high 13 carries for a gamehigh 74 yards. The Tar Heels outgained the Hurricanes on the ground, 161-41.

  • Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke’s 42 completions are the most ever by an opposing quarterback in Tar Heel history. The previous high was 41 by Dominique Davis of East Carolina in 2011. His 57 passing attempts are tied for the fourth most, while his 497 passing yards are the second most ever allowed. Virginia’s Brennan Armstrong had 554 yards in 2021.
