Tar Heels named to the 2023 All-ACC Softball Academic Team include Lilli Backes, Skyler Brooks, Kenna Raye Dark, Isabela Emerling, Caroline Fox, Lexi Godwin, Talia Hannappel, Kianna Jones, Kiersten Licea, Bailey McCachren, Destiny Middleton, Carlie Myrtle, Carsyn Snead, and Bri Stubbs. Corey Lyons Joins UNC Softball Staff

Megan Smith Lyon announced the addition of assistant coach Corey Lyon to her staff on Tuesday afternoon. Lyon comes to UNC after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Marshall. During his time in Huntington, where he served as the Herd's hitting coach, Marshall rewrote the offensive record book. (

Donna Papa reflects on career as UNC softball coach after retiring in May

Donna Papa’s time as UNC head softball coach has ended, she described her tenure as a challenge. "I was challenged every day to be better and to work and try to keep up with the people around me. Megan Smith Lyon Announced As UNC's New Softball Coach
Megan Smith Lyon, a 17-year head coaching veteran and UNC alumna, has been hired as the University of North Carolina's new softball coach. Smith Lyon comes to Chapel Hill after five years at Marshall. Smith Lyon, who played for the Tar Heels from 1996-99, returns to Chapel Hill following the winningest year of her career. UNC will hire former Tar Heels player
Megan Smith Lyon as its softball coach, according to Extra Innings Softball. Smith Lyon, a 1999 UNC graduate, has spent the last five seasons at Marshall, where her teams went 160-70. Last season, the Thundering Herd went 45-10, won the Sun Belt Conference East Division, and went on a 23-game win streak. (

Donna J. Papa Retires After 38 Seasons As UNC Softball Coach
Donna J. Papa, the fifth-longest tenured head coach in any sport in University of North Carolina history and the sixth-winningest in NCAA softball history, announced her retirement on Thursday afternoon as head coach of the Tar Heels. Papa led UNC for 38 of her 40 seasons as a head coach and compiled 1,339 of her 1,368 victories while in Chapel Hill. (
