Firstenberg's Goal The Difference As UNC Women's Soccer Rallies

Junior forward Sarah Ashley Firstenberg’s third career goal lifted third-ranked North Carolina to a 2-1 women’s soccer victory over 15th-ranked Southern California Sunday in the Duke Nike Classic. For the second straight game, UNC conceded a goal in the opening 15 minutes before rallying, beating USC 2-1 Sunday after forging a 1-1 tie with California on Friday. (

UNC Men's Soccer Draws With Wiliiam & Mary

No. 4 North Carolina played to a 1-1 draw with the Tribe of William & Mary Friday night at Fetzer Field. The Tribe was first to strike. A one-touch just before colliding with goalkeeper James Pyle produced the first goal of the game. The collision brought goalkeeper Sam Euler into the game, who recorded three saves throughout the rest of the match. (

Buckingham’s Late Goal Earns UNC Women's Soccer A 1-1 Draw

Megan Buckingham’s return from injury was well-timed for the third-ranked UNC women’s soccer team as her goal with less than three minutes remaining allowed the Tar Heels to tie 25th-ranked California Friday night 1-1 in the Duke Nike Classic at Koskinen Stadium. Buckingham sent a blast off the hands of Cal goalkeeper Emily Boyd into the back of the net with just 2:52 left in regulation time. (

Jonathan Campbell Selected A Candidate For Senior CLASS Award

Jonathan Campbell is among sixty NCAA men’s and women’s soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field and were selected as candidates Thursday for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award. Campbell is a four-year starter for the fourth-ranked Tar Heels. In 2014, Campbell was named a first team Academic All-America and also earned All-ACC honors for the third-straight year. (

UNC men's soccer freshman keeper earns the start

UNC has always been the team James Pyle envisioned himself playing for. After redshirting his freshman season, Pyle earned the starting nod this season from Coach Carlos Somoano after an exhibition season where he allowed only one goal. Zach Wright Pushes UNC Men's Soccer Past Broncos

Zach Wright’s first-half goal propelled No. 5 North Carolina to a 3-0 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos Sunday night at Fetzer Field. With five seconds remaining in the first stanza, Andy Lopez had little time to set up the sixth corner of the half, but his cross connected with Wright in the box to put the Tar Heels up 1-0. Summer Green and Alexa Newfield each scored two goals for UNC as the Tar Heel women’s soccer team defeated the UTSA Roadrunners 5-0 in the Texas Invitational Sunday morning at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Green had the opening two goals of the game and Newfield scored once in each half. Jessie Scarpa tallied her first career goal as a Tar Heel to wrap up the 5-0 win. (

UNC Women's Soccer Blanks Texas 2-0

Fifth-ranked North Carolina got goals from Cameron Castleberry and Joanna Boyles in the opening five minutes of the second half to beat Texas 2-0 in women’s soccer before a crowd of 2,195 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the Longhorn campus. UNC improved to 3-0 with the win as it recorded its third straight clean sheet on the young season. (

Raby George's Penalty Kick Lifts Carolina Over FIU

Raby George’s penalty kick lifted No. 5 North Carolina to a 1-0 season-opening victory over FIU on Friday night from Fetzer Field. While Andy Lopez made a play on the the ball, it deflected off his foot and an FIU defender was whistled for a hand ball, giving Carolina a penalty kick opportunity. George calmly scored from the penalty area in the 82nd minute. (
