Right-handed pitcher Matt Keating had committed to transfer to UNC. Instead, he’s heading to the professional ranks. The UNC baseball program landed a big-time transfer in former Vanderbilt left-handed pitcher Nelson Berkwich, who announced his commitment to the Tar Heels on Friday. Two-time state champion Brooks Brannon has told HighSchoolOT that he has signed with the Boston Red Sox after being picked in the 9th round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Brannon's decision to sign means that he will not be enrolling at UNC and will head to the instructional league for the remainder of the year before going to his first spring training in 2023. After a record-setting senior season, Randleman's Brooks Brannon was selected in the MLB Draft. The UNC commit was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the ninth round Monday with the 279th overall selection. "I move up quickly and we win a ring in Boston."
