Roy Williams' Carolina Basketball Camp has completed its first session. One of the highlights is the scrimmage between former Tar Heel players and members of the current team. Tuesday's scrimmage featured an impressive turnout of former UNC players: Harrison Barnes, Tyler Zeller, Tyler Hansbrough, Justin Jackson, Marcus Paige, Marvin Williams, Jawad Williams and more.

Roy Williams has a flood of former players arriving in town for camp week, including Marvin Williams, Tyler Hansbrough, John Henson, Harrison Barnes, Tyler Zeller, Marcus Paige, Brice Johnson, and Justin Jackson. And later this week he’s planning to speak with NBA teams on behalf of Joel Berry and Theo Pinson, who hope to be drafted to start their pro careers.

They have been trying to make those kind of comparisons.”

Playing on one of the most memorable college basketball teams in the 2000s, Ty Lawson, along with Wayne Ellington, Danny Green, and Tyler Hansbrough won the 2009 NCAA Championship over Michigan State. That season, Lawson was named ACC Player of the Year, a 2nd Team All-American, and won the Bob Cousy Award (best NCAA point guard).

The Tar Heels' 2009 run was probably the most convincing of the last 10 years. Led by Tyler Hansbrough, the Tar Heels also featured two other former top 10 recruits in Wayne Ellington and Tywon Lawson. Ellington, Danny Green
and Ed Davis are still in the NBA. UNC's 2017 team didn’t feature a true high school superstar, but Justin Jackson was pretty close.

Roy Williams on Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbrough Playing in China
"I'd have Ty Lawson and Tyler Hansbrough on my team 'til the day I die because I trust them and believe in them and their abilities," Roy Williams told reporters last week. Williams was aware of Lawson's potential return to the NBA this season, although he hasn't spoken with the 'little rascal' since the summer. Williams has spoken with Hansbrough many times.

February 11, 2009: UNC's Tyler Hansbrough and Danny Green become the only two Tar Heels to go 4-0 in games at Cameron Indoor Stadium after a 101-87 win at Duke. The Tar Heels would go on to win the NCAA tournament two months later, becoming national champs by defeating Michigan State in Detroit.
