Myles Dorn Ready for Starting Role
North Carolina safety Myles Dorn will be asked to play older than his age this season. Luckily for the 19-year old, the date on his birth certificate is a bit deceiving. Dorn is entering his sophomore season with plenty of expectations awaiting him. Not only is he the son of former UNC standout Torin Dorn, but the 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety is slated to start alongside senior Donnie Miles.
NC State shooting guard signee Thomas Allen asks for release from LOI
NC State entered the spring with one signee in its 2017 recruiting class. That number soon may turn to zero. According to ESPN analyst Adam Finkelstein, shooting guard Thomas Allen has asked for a release from his letter of intent to NCSU. If he stuck with the Pack, the 6-2, 3-star recruit would add depth on the wing behind rising juniors Maverick Rowan and Torin Dorn.
Dorn family torn over NC State, UNC rivalry
Torin Dorn Sr. is a North Carolina fan. He went to UNC and played football there almost 30 years ago. His son, Myles, just finished his freshman season on UNC’s football team. His wife, Rhonda, is a UNC graduate. By all accounts, the Dorns, from Charlotte, are a Carolina family.
Dorn family bonds break State-Carolina boundaries
It's State-Carolina rivalry week and the Dorn family is in an unprecedented position. NC State guard Torin Dorn Jr. and UNC defensive back Myles Dorn grew up Tar Heels -- their father Torin Dorn Sr. played four years of football at UNC, where he met his wife Rhonda. "That rivalry shaped me growing up," Torin Jr. said. "Going to Carolina games, being a Carolina fan."
Postgame Notes - UNC vs. South Carolina
This is the first time UNC has lost when holding an opponent to 17 points or fewer since a 13-0 defeat at NC State on Nov. 5, 2011. The Tar Heels now lead the series, 34-19-4. Elijah Hood’s 138 rushing yards are the most by a Tar Heel in a season opener since Torin Dorn gained 165 vs. Illinois on Sept. 5, 1987. Wide receiver Bug Howard caught a career-high six passes for a career-high 114 yards.
N.C. State Adds Conference USA Freshman of the Year Torin Dorn
N.C. State landed a commitment on Sunday from Torin Dorn, the Conference USA Freshman of the Year at Charlotte, sources confirmed to SNY.tv. The 6-foot-5 Dorn, who averaged 12.0 points and 3.7 rebounds, chose N.C. State over Miami. Dorn was one of five players to leave the program after former NBA player Mark Price became the school’s new coach, replacing Alan Major. THT Note: Dorn is the son of former UNC (1986-89) and NFL (1990-96) football player Torin Dorn, Sr.
