UNC senior appreciation accompanies pain

Having compiled 14 career victories in the NCAA tournament, made back-to-back trips to the national championship game and claimed the NCAA title, Theo Pinson saw Sunday’s domination by Texas A&M in the round of 32 as an unfortunate part of his Tar Heels legacy with classmate Joel Berry. He also viewed it from the perspective of a necessary evil.

Joel Berry & Theo Pinson Aren't Entirely Going Away

The final chapter of Joel Berry's and Theo Pinson's legacies shouldn’t be written yet. The effect they’ve had on teammates is immeasurable. “To me personally, they’ve meant the world just helping me grow as a person,” junior Kenny Williams said, following North Carolina’s season-ending loss to Texas A&M on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

What UNC will look like next season without Joel Berry and Theo Pinson

Joel Berry and Theo Pinson left North Carolina’s locker room after Sunday’s loss to Texas A&M to wait for the post-game press conference. Starters Kenny Williams, Luke Maye and Cam Johnson were left in the stunned locker room to answer questions about UNC's second-round loss to the Aggies. It was a glimpse of what next season will look like for the Tar Heels.

Tar Heels look to future without mainstays Berry, Pinson

Joel Berry II and Theo Pinson led the way as North Carolina won Atlantic Coast Conference titles, reached two Final Fours and claimed a national championship. Now they've played their final games, and the Tar Heels have massive holes to fill: Berry's competitiveness at the point, Pinson's knack for playmaking and the duo's role as UNC's seen-it-all leaders.

The Run Ends

UNC's amazing run came to an end Sunday, derailed by a two-headed monster from the southwest. One head belonged to Tyler Davis, a big man for whom the Tar Heels had no answers, and the other a collection of perimeter shooters who haven’t exactly been constants this season. And with it, Joel Berry and Theo Pinson have played their last games as Tar Heels.

Joel Berry, Theo Pinson leave to standing ovation

The loss not only ended the Tar Heels season but it ended the careers of seniors Theo Pinson and Joel Berry..The duo arrived at UNC as part of the 2014 recruiting class that also featured Justin Jackson. The three were all top 25 players and an important class for Roy Williams. Jackson left UNC after his junior season but is a huge part of the Tar Heels success.

UNC says goodbye to its seniors, the season earlier than expected

Theo Pinson and Joel Berry didn't go out the way they wanted, but what they accomplished is tough to match. Pinson said the message he'd pass to his teammates is to remember this feeling, adding, "It's the same feeling we had – well, it's a little bit different when we lost the national championship game." Losing Berry and Pinson felt like losing an era.

Lucas: This Place

Big Theo pondered this moment, which he knew would happen eventually. "It will come to an end one day," he said of his son Theo Pinson's time at UNC, but also finding a way to speak for every single one of the rest of us. "When that happens, I won't have to look back and feel bad that it's over. Because I enjoyed the heck out of it every day that it was happening."

Quick Hitters – UNC vs. Texas A&M

First things first: Win or lose, the ending to a season is always sudden, abrupt, and jarring. What a treat the ride has been with Joel Berry and Theo Pinson over the last four years. It has been well-chronicled, but bears repeating, that the 2014 class of Berry, Pinson, and Justin Jackson turned out to be one of the more important classes ever at North Carolina.

Roy Williams, Joel Berry, Theo Pinson Post-Texas A&M Press Conference Transcript

Theo Pinson: "Probably the main reason I'm not crying right now is because I've enjoyed every single moment I had with Coach, Joel, and all my teammates in the past, teammates in the locker room right now, just -- that's the hardest thing. I won't be able to get on a plane with them, five hours to L.A. to spend more time with them. It's over. That's the toughest part. It's tough."
