Q&A with Former UNC and Philadelphia Eagles Receiver Na Brown
I was able to catch up with former Tar Heel and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Na Brown. Na compiled 165 catches for 2,086 yards and 14 touchdowns during his four years at UNC. He currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina where he can be found playing as much golf as possible and coaching his son's basketball team. He has two sons, ages 10 and 8, and a 4 year old daughter.
Romar Morris Named N.C. Athlete of the Year
UNC football signee Romar Morris of Salisbury High School has been named the 2011 Athlete of the Year by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA). This is the top athletic award given by the NCHSAA to honor the most outstanding male and female high school athletes in the state. Other Tar Heels that have won the award include Ethan Albright ('89), Na Brown ('95), Tyrell Godwin ('97), Julius Peppers ('98), Kendric Burney ('06) and Kareem Martin ('10).
UNC's time is at hand
North Carolina wide receiver Jesse Holley said he expected teammate Jarwarski Pollock to set the school record for receptions three games ago. The fact that the senior has caught only two passes for 7 yards the past two games -- and still needs four more catches to surpass Na Brown -- symbolizes the Tar Heels' passing woes of late.
Jarwarski Pollock: The little Tar Heel with a big agenda
Jarwarski Pollock says that, honestly, he stands 5 feet, 7 inches ... "and some change." Those tiny fractions of an inch are open to debate. But Pollock doesn't sweat the small stuff, like his height measurement, anymore. The North Carolina senior can eclipse Na Brown's school record for receptions in a career with six catches today against Virginia. That would be no small feat for a guy who has overcome daunting challenges -- in academics as well as in football -- through his determination to satisfy a promise to his mother and a fearlessness that belies his physical stature.
Pollock turns his focus from rehab to record pursuit
One of the keys to being in position to set the school record for career receptions, North Carolina senior Jarwarski Pollock said, is staying relatively injury-free. Which is why it isn't much of a surprise that the senior, who had arthroscopic left knee surgery on Oct. 7, will be back in uniform on Saturday, fully prepared to make the six catches he needs to pass record-holder Na Brown.
UNC receiver keeps fighting off adversity
Little has prevented UNC receiver Jawarski Pollock from what will likely be a record-setting college career. Not a poor SAT score that had him labeled with the dreaded partial qualifier tag out of high school. Not an undersized frame (5-foot-8, 170-pounds). Off the field, Pollock earned his degree last spring to keep a promise he made to his mother that he would graduate. On the field, he enters Saturday afternoon’s game against Virginia just six catches shy of breaking Na Brown’s school record of 165 career receptions.
Jawarski Pollock a record catch for UNC
As elusive as Jawarski Pollock is -- he can change direction faster than the wind -- he never can escape questions about his size. He enters today's game at Louisville five receptions short of UNC's career record of 165, set by Na Brown from 1995-98. Brown (6 feet, 184 pounds) wasn't big by any means, but Pollock is just 5-8, 172 pounds. And that's after he's added 10 pounds of muscle since arriving in Chapel Hill.
