Diamond Heels Roll Into Coastal Lead

No. 8 North Carolina accomplished a task this weekend that head coach Mike Fox could only label as “improbable.” UNC stung Georgia Tech, 10-3, on Sunday, completing a three-game weekend sweep – marking the Tar Heels first series sweep over the Yellow Jackets since 1996. The three consecutive wins propelled UNC into the ACC Coastal Division lead.

The Diamond Heels (24-12; 12-6 ACC) won three of four games this past week, including a mid-week matchup against Appalachian State and taking both games of a doubleheader against Virginia. UNC plays NC State in a non-ACC game Tuesday in Durham before hosting Georgia Tech this weekend. Inside Carolina spoke with coach Mike Fox on Monday.

After 'average' start and turning-point loss, UNC baseball trending up

UNC started 2018 tabbed to win the ACC Coastal Division and ranked as high as No. 6 in preseason polls, but lost just its second season opener since coach Mike Fox took over in 1999, went 7-7 in its first 14 games and fell out of the Top 25. Now, UNC is back in the rankings for the second straight week (at No. 19) and has "been settled lately," according to Fox.

UNC Reliever Cooper Criswell Receives Golden Spikes Performance of the Week Honor

Fresh off an incredible performance that saw him strike out 13 of the 20 hitters he faced during UNC’s win over Miami last Saturday, junior reliever Cooper Criswell was named as the Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week winner. The 6-foot-6 righty set a new mark for most strikeouts out of the bullpen during the Mike Fox era at UNC.

This Week with Mike Fox: Opportunity Knocks

The Tar Heels (21-11, 10-5 ACC) dominated South Carolina in Charlotte, 11-3, before winning two of three at Miami. North Carolina faces Appalachian State in a mid-week matchup before heading to Virginia this weekend for another key ACC series. Inside Carolina spoke with head coach Mike Fox on Monday: "Cooper (Criswell) has really pitched well for us all season."

UNC Baseball Stays Loose Under The Bright Lights

Perhaps its the size of the crowds, the black batter's eye in center field or, as Mike Fox joked with one Charlotte Knights staffer, the pregame meals. But standing outside the clubhouse after UNC's 11-3 win over South Carolina on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark, Fox searched for the right words as he tried to explain what's made his team so successful at the facility.

UNC Baseball: Mike Fox reaches career milestone

Mike Fox joins Florida State’s Mike Martin and Miami’s Jim Cain as the only active college baseball coaches with 1,400 career wins. He’s in his 20th season at UNC and has put together a record of 861-370-1 during that time, while helping build up the Tar Heels to one of the nation’s preeminent college baseball programs.

North Carolina baseball's hitters continue torrid pace in 13-1 win over Maryland

After getting shut out by Gardner-Webb on March 14 and sporting a modest 9-8 record, Mike Fox issued a challenge to his team. “Look, you want to keep doing this?” the North Carolina baseball team's head coach asked his players. “What kind of season do you want to have? Are we keep going to wallow in self-pity, or are we going to do something about it?”

This Week with Mike Fox: Breaking Through

North Carolina baseball coach Mike Fox: "I think we challenged our guys after Wednesday’s performance. That was certainly extremely disappointing offensively. I think Ben Casparius' base hit on Friday with the bases loaded early to kind of break through there and give us a 2-1 lead sort of let the air out of our dugout and let our kids relax in the dugout."

This Week with Mike Fox: UNC Baseball Heating Up

North Carolina baseball (7-5) bounced back this past week, winning all four games on the schedule (a shutout of High Point and then a sweep of Liberty) while averaging 11.5 runs. The Diamond Heels host VCU on Tuesday before heading into Atlantic Coast Conference play at Louisville this weekend. Inside Carolina spoke with coach Mike Fox on Monday.

UNC Baseball Faces High Point On Tuesday

For the first time since 1962, the UNC baseball team has started 0-3 at home, with its most recent loss being a 12-0 defeat against ECU on Sunday. "It's one game out of a lot," coach Mike Fox said. "It seemed like more than one game. You just have to look at it like that and move on." The Tar Heels will look to do that Tuesday, when they host High Point at 3 p.m.

This Week with Mike Fox: No Panic

UNC baseball coach Mike Fox: "We have a good group of kids. Our chemistry is good. Our clubhouse is good. Our leadership is good. We are just not playing well. That is part of the game. That is part of baseball. It is a hard game. You never know how seasons start. We probably have been a little spoiled as we generally historically get out of the gate pretty well."

UNC Drops 14 Spots to No. 20 in D1Baseball Top 25
