He says he enjoyed visiting with former Tar Heel standout Michael Morin up in New York City. Morin was getting set to make his Major League Baseball debut for the Los Angeles Angels.

After hectic arrival, Michael Morin awaits debut

Michael Morin wanted to get to Yankee Stadium on Sunday after his recall from Triple-A Salt Lake City before anyone changed their mind. The Gulls were playing in Reno when Morin got the news. He had to fly to Salt Lake and change planes, but that flight was delayed two hours. Heavy traffic in New York delayed him again, and he arrived at the stadium via taxi 45 minutes before game time.

Angels promote top pitching prospect Mike Morin to big leagues

The Angels promoted one of their top relief-pitching prospects to the big leagues Sunday, calling up right-hander Michael Morin, 22, from triple-A Salt Lake and optioning outfielder Brennan Boesch to triple A. Morin, a 13th-round pick out of the University of North Carolina in 2012, was Angels minor league pitcher of the year in 2013.

The All-America honor is the fourth of the year for Morin as he also was named All-America by NCBWA, ABCA and Collegiate Baseball.

The North Carolina fans at Boshamer Stadium got to their feet and starting clapping, the volume rising with each strike from Tar Heels closer Michael Morin. On the third pitch, Morin struck out Cornell’s Tom D’Alessandro with two runners aboard, sealing another home NCAA Tournament win for UNC.
