Marcus Paige, Kristen Brown, Emily Wold Win Patterson Medal

Kristen Brown, the Atlantic Coast Conference’s all-time softball home run leader, Marcus Paige, Carolina’s all-time leader in three-point field goals, and Emily Wold, a three-time first-team All-America in field hockey, are the 2016 recipients of the Patterson Medal, the most prestigious athletic award given at the University of North Carolina.

Kristen Brown Named Softball First Team All-America

Tar Heel shortstop Kristen Brown was named First-Team All-America on Wednesday, as elected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). It is the second consecutive All-America award for the senior, who earned a Third Team selection in 2015. Brown became the ninth Tar Heel to garner All-America honors.

UNC Softball Tops Longwood With Record-Breaking Walk-Off Blast

Carolina fell behind 4-0 early, but a four-run fifth inning tied the score and senior shortstop Kristen Brown crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to propel UNC to a 6-4 victory over Longwood University in the opening game of the 2016 NCAA Regionals. “We’ve been this way all year,” said head coach Donna J. Papa.

NFCA Selects Kristen Brown To All-Region First Team

UNC shortstop Kristen Brown was named to the All-Southeast Region First Team on Thursday, as elected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). It is the second consecutive All-Region award for the senior, who was also named All-ACC First Team this month. Brown was one of two ACC players selected to the All-Southeast Region First Team.

Three Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Softball Honors

North Carolina’s Kristen Brown, Kendra Lynch and Taylor Wike were each named to 2016 All-ACC softball teams on Thursday. Brown and Lynch earned spots on the All-ACC First Team, while Wike garnered Second Team honors. “I am thrilled for Kristen, Kendra and Taylor on their achievement of all-conference,” said head coach Donna J. Papa.

Kendra Lynch Earns Third ACC Pitcher Of The Week Honor

North Carolina junior Kendra Lynch finished the 2016 regular season just as she began it—as the ACC Pitcher of the Week. The Indianapolis native picks up her third weekly honor of the season. Teammates Kristen Brown and Berlynne Delamora also combined for three ACC Player of the Week awards this season.

UNC Softball Pitches Three-Hit Shutout At Georgia Tech

The UNC offense hit as many home runs as base runners Tar Heel starter Kendra Lynch allowed, as UNC shut out Georgia Tech, 7-0, to open the final series of the regular season. Lynch, Kristen Brown and Taylor Wike all went deep in the game, while the junior hurler limited the Yellow Jackets to just three hits in the complete-game shutout.

Cavaliers Edge UNC Softball, 3-2, In Finale

A triple and a home run in the first two innings provided all the offense Virginia would need, as Carolina’s late comeback fell short, dropping Sunday’s ACC series finale, 3-2. The win lifts UVA to 15-28 (5-10 ACC), while Carolina falls to 24-21 (8-10 ACC). Kristen Brown led the Tar Heels at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the cleanup spot.

Kendra Lynch Earns Second ACC Pitcher Of The Week Award

North Carolina junior Kendra Lynch was named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday, marking the second time this season that the Tar Heel hurler has taken home the weekly honor. The award is the fourth for UNC this season, as Berlynne Delamora and Kristen Brown have each earned ACC Player of the Week honors this year.

Shortstop Kristen Brown Makes U.S. National Softball Team

UNC shortstop Kristen Brown thought her dreams had come true last summer when she was given the opportunity to play in an exhibition game against the U.S. Women’s National Team. Six months later, Brown is ready to take her shot at representing her country, determined to show the selection committee what she was made of.
