Former UNC football player Kendric Burney sat down with The Daily News’ sports editor Rick Scoppe and prep sports writer Chris Miller for an hour-long conversation. In a wide-ranging interview, Burney talked about the disappointment of not being picked in the NFL draft and subsequently being signed by the Carolina Panthers and later the St. Louis Rams for their practice squads.

Cornerback Kendric Burney, who worked out for the St. Louis Rams last week, has been added to the practice squad, filling the spot created Saturday when offensive tackle Kevin Hughes was promoted to the active roster. Burney is a rookie free agent from North Carolina who spent training camp this summer with the Carolina Panthers.

Panthers release Kendric Burney from practice squad

The Panthers released former UNC cornerback Kendric Burney from their practice squad Tuesday according to the team's official twitter account. Burney, who went undrafted in the 2011 NFL draft, was signed as a rookie free agent by Carolina on July 30. The Panthers have signed LB Kion Wilson, who was on the San Diego Chargers' roster last season, in Burney's spot.

It seems the Carolina Panthers weren’t quite willing to part ways with former UNC and Southwest High School star Kendric Burney just yet. The NFL team announced Monday that Burney was among six players with whom they had agreed to terms with for its practice squad. Burney, a former All-ACC cornerback with the Tar Heels, signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent.

Kendric Burney Cut From Panthers' Roster

Kendric Burney will officially not be playing for the Carolina Panthers ---at least, not for now. The former UNC star cornerback did not make the cut for the Panthers’ final 53-player roster, which was announced Saturday.

Time is right for Jabari Price at UNC

With Kendric Burney now off to the Carolina Panthers, Jabari Price finds himself in position to stand alongside Charles Brown, who has returned after a yearlong suspension, as one of the starting cornerbacks for the Tar Heels. “To have Charles Brown back, it’s almost like last year. He brings back an experienced corner, and with that experienced corner you have someone to rely on to show you the ropes. It’s real helpful,” Price said.

Panther newcomers feel at home

For free agent acquisitions Omar Gaither and Olindo Mare and for undrafted free agent Kendric Burney, the opportunity to join the Panthers family is like coming home. "When I got the phone call asking me to join the Panthers, I smiled big-time and I said, ‘Well, God worked out a way for me to get here,'" Burney said. "Having the opportunity to sign with the Panthers and try to make this team is a blessing."

NFL teams sign area players

Tight end Zack Pianalto (Buffalo Bills), cornerback Kendric Burney (Carolina Panthers), running back Shaun Draughn (Washington Redskins), guard Alan Pelc (Oakland Raiders) and tackle Mike Ingersoll (Kansas City Chiefs) joined the nine former UNC players who were taken in the NFL draft in April with training camp spots.

Former UNC cornerback and undrafted free agent Kendric Burney tweets that he's not going far - he'll be a Carolina Panther. The Panthers will probably officially announce the signing on Tuesday, which is the first day that post-NFL Lockout rules allow them to do so. Burney was one of the top-rated undrafted free agents available
