UNC Basketball: K.J. Smith 2017-18 season preview

K.J. Smith, son of former UNC point guard Kenny Smith, joins the Tar Heels in 2017 as a sophomore walk-on. Smith attended the University of the Pacific last year as a freshman where he averaged 3.2 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 13.5 minutes per game. He won’t gain eligibility until next season, but he will be able to practice and travel with the team. (Keeping It Heel)

UNC Basketball: First Day of Practice

The Tar Heels begin practice for the 2017-18 college basketball season on Monday, Oct. 2. UNC lost three starters from the 2017 National Championship team along with two valuable role players. UNC adds five scholarship freshmen, one graduate transfer in Cameron Johnson, and a walk-on transfer in K.J. Smith. Sophomore wing Shea Rush also earned a scholarship. (Inside Carolina)

UNC sophomore transfer K.J. Smith has an extensive Tar Heel history. He's the son of Carolina star Kenny "The Jet" Smith, a lightning-fast point guard whose jersey hangs in the Smith Center rafters. K.J. Smith has been waiting on the news he received Monday for quite sometime. That's why he didn't talk about it to almost anyone. Jinxing an opportunity to play at the school his mother graduated from, and his father starred at 30 years ago, just wasn't worth it. Clemson looks to bounce back at UNC

In addition to the Tar Heels’ size, Clemson will have to contend with a few other factors on Sunday night, among them being the lack of experience playing in Chapel Hill. K.J.
