Kuester, Shaver touched by gesture from Dean Smith

John Kuester and his wife, Tricia, stopped at their mailbox Thursday afternoon in Cary, N.C. That’s when they saw what Kuester called "something very special to remember (legendary UNC coach Dean Smith) by." Smith died Feb. 7 at age 83. In his will he directed that his trust give $200 to every letterman who played for him during his 36 seasons with the Tar Heels.

Dean Smith, Rick Robey and the moment UNC and Kentucky became real rivals

It came in the 1977 NCAA Tournament. There were 22 seconds left in the NCAA East Regional championship game when Dean Smith charged all the way down the basketball floor of the University of Maryland's Cole Field House. Lakers hire John Kuester

It took the Los Angeles Lakers just more than two weeks to find Phil Jackson's replacement in coach Mike Brown. More than a month later the team is officially finalizing Brown's coaching staff. John Kuester is Brown's first official bench partner in L.A. The former Detroit Pistons head coach has been hired as an assistant coach for the Lakers, the team announced Wednesday.
