Nelms, Sell Honored By ACC
North Carolina's Jennifer Nelms and Jessica Sell have been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Basketball Team, annouced on Wednesday by the ACC. Fifteen student-athletes from the 12-team league were named to the squad, which requires a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Lady Heels point to future
Carolina loses senior starters La'Tangela Atkinson, an ACC all-defensive player, and Jessica Sell. But the Heels return their top three scorers and every one of their important bench players. The recruiting class includes 6-foot-3 Jessica Breland of Bertie High, a McDonald's All-American, and 6-2 Trinity Bursey of Western Harnett, who made all-state. With the production the Heels got this season from Latta, Little and Erlana Larkins, offense shouldn't be a problem.
Lady Heels pass road test
Camille Little took a baseline. Jessica Sell took a sideline. Moments before North Carolina's NCAA Tournament game against Vanderbilt tipped off at Vanderbilt's Memorial Gymnasium, Little and Sell mimed a glass wall to protect their team from a hostile crowd. There may have been cracks in that glass, but the top-ranked Tar Heels survived, 89-70, and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
Scenes From Saturday's Lady Heels' Win Over Duke
The UNC women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day before Saturday's game against Duke and an ACC regular season title afterward. The Tar Heels' 77-65 win over the Blue Devils gave Carolina the top seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament. Played at sold-out Carmichael Auditorium, the game was the last home appearance for seniors players La'Tangela Atkinson, Jennifer Nelms and Jessica Sell and manager Nora Jabbour.
