Tar Heel Push Making a Difference with Armando Bacot

North Carolina is prioritizing five-star big man Armando Bacot. While the 6-foot-10, 240-pound 2019 standout impressed at the USA Basketball U18 training camp this past week, UNC assistant coaches Hubert Davis and Brad Frederick were courtside on Saturday to watch him play. "I know if I can go there, I can come in and make an impact," Bacot said.

Keion Brooks will have his pick of schools as UNC, Kentucky, Kansas get involved

Keion Brooks' recruitment has blown up. He’s had the entire Midwest on him hard for a couple years, but recently some of the bluebloods like North Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky have joined the mix. “They are North Carolina. It’s a historic program. I like the way Coach (Hubert) Davis and Coach (Roy) Williams are going out of their way to build a relationship.”

Keion Brooks adds North Carolina offer, discusses recruiting

Keion Brooks picked up an offer from North Carolina on Tuesday, which was no surprise considering coach Roy Williams and assistant Hubert Davis watched Brooks throughout the weekend at the Nike EYBL session. “Right now we’re just starting a relationship. When (Hubert Davis) called me earlier this week, it’s my first time talking anybody from North Carolina.”

Roy Williams Offers 2019 5-Star Forward Keion Brooks

North Carolina is moving quickly with Keion Brooks. Last week the 6-8 forward from Fort Wayne (Ind.) North Side got an initial phone call from UNC assistant coach Hubert Davis. After a weekend of evaluations, the Tar Heels offered a scholarship on Tuesday night. Brooks is ranked No. 5 small forward in the 2019 class and No. 16 overall recruit according to 247 Sports.

Armando Bacot Gives the Latest on His Recruitment

North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Hubert Davis sat on the baseline for Team Takeover’s first game to watch Armando Bacot, ranked No. 20 in the 2019 ESPN 60. They also visited Bacot last month, and he took an unofficial visit to campus. “I feel like I’m their top priority, they’ve really been recruiting me hard,” Bacot said. “He feels like I can be a great player there.”

Precious Achiuwa keeping a low profile on recruitment

North Carolina coach Roy Williams has been a regular presence at Precious Achiuwa’s games, dating back to when he and Hubert Davis watched Achiuwa go for 19 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in a January win over Hudson Catholic at Kean University. Williams and the North Carolina staff kept tabs on Achiuwa all weekend in Indianapolis.

Roy Williams on the Recruiting Trail Friday

Roy Williams was at the Nike EYBL event in Indianapolis on Friday watching a number of UNC's top basketball recruits. Among those he and assistant Hubert Davis watched were 2019 PF Armando Bacot (UNC offer), 2019 PF Vernon Carey (UNC offer), 2019 SF Wendell Moore (UNC offer), 2019 CG Cole Anthony, 2019 SF Juwan Gary, and 2020 SF Scottie Barnes.

Roy Williams to Visit Armando Bacot

North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams and assistant Hubert Davis arrived in Richmond, Virginia on Thursday to visit 2019 5-star power forward Armando Bacot at Trinity Episcopal School. This is Williams' third visit to see Bacot in the last 5 weeks. Bacot holds a UNC offer and is one of UNC's top priorities in the 2019 recruiting class.

UNC JV Basketball Team Watches Marcus Paige Play

The North Carolina JV basketball team is one of the great college basketball traditions. Carolina assistant coach Hubert Davis coaches the team which plays prep school and small college teams. UNC varsity walk-ons also come from the JV team. Over the weekend, Davis took the JV team to watch former Tar Heel point Marcus Paige play for the Greensboro Swarm.

Joel Berry climbs Tar Heels’ all-time scoring list in win over NC State

Point guard Joel Berry is climbing up the North Carolina Tar Heels all-time scoring list. Berry is now officially in the Top 25, as he scored 16 against NC State on Saturday and moved past some UNC legends. The senior has now passed Eric Montross, Justin Jackson, Jawad Williams and Hubert Davis on the list and currently sits 22nd all-time with 1,630 points.

Carolina-Duke Postgame Notes

UNC tied a school-record with two turnovers and allowed only one point off turnovers. UNC and Duke were 1-2 in the nation in rebounds per game. Carolina out-rebounded the Blue Devils, 44-38. Kenny Williams tied his career high with 20 points, tied his career high with six three-pointers and tied the UNC record for 3FGs against Duke (with Hubert Davis in 1992).

Tar Heels send Duke to a second-straight loss

UNC had the heart, the hustle, and a little history on its side Thursday night in scrapping past the Blue Devils for an 82-78 win that reminded us, yet again, why this is college basketball’s best rivalry. Kenny Williams had a career night with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Not since Hubert Davis in 1992 had a UNC player made that many 3s against Duke.

Roy Williams Live: UNC Still Growing as a Team

“This has been a different year,” UNC assistant coach Hubert Davis said on Roy Williams’ radio show Monday night. “We have eight new guys. So, there’s eight new personalities, there’s eight new people that you have to get to understand what Carolina basketball is all about and what you have to bring every day in practice to prepare yourself to be successful.”
