Six women's soccer players invited to train with world national team
U.S. Women's National Team head coach Pia Sundhage has called in 24 players, including six current and former Tar Heels, for an 11-day training camp running from Dec. 5-15 in Carson, Calif. Tar Heels attending the camp include Lori Chalupny, Cat Whitehill, Heather O'Reilly, Tobin Heath, Casey Nogeuira and Yael Averbuch.

Former North Carolina star Cat Whitehill, a national team member who's recovering from knee surgery, is working for ESPN2 this weekend during the NCAA Women's College Cup, the final four of women's soccer, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The former Cat Reddick, the 2003 national player of the year, spoke about today's semifinals -- Stanford vs. Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. and UNC vs. UCLA at 7 p.m. -- including how the weather might affect the outcomes.
Four Tar Heels Named To 2008 Olympic Women's Soccer Team
U.S. Women's National Team head coach Pia Sundhage has named the 18-player roster for the 2008 Olympic Team, a squad which includes former Tar Heel All-Americas Heather O'Reilly, Lindsay Tarpley and Lori Chalupny and current UNC standout Tobin Heath, but not the recently injured Cat Reddick Whitehill. Another former Tar Heel great, Kacey White, is one of the team's four alternates.
