The No. 1 University of North Carolina Women's Tennis Team lost 4-3 to No. 6 Georgia Tech on Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. North Carolina (16-2, 5-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) drops its first match to an ACC regular-season opponent in almost a year, ending an 11-match win streak. Woody Durham was The Voice of the Tar Heels for 40 years. He was so good, legions of fans would turn down the sound on their televisions during games to hear Woody’s play-by-play. Restaurants, sports bars and citizens across North Carolina started holding “Turn Down The Sound” parties. They did it because he was a thousand miles ahead of any TV sportscaster.
Brandan Wright Released by Houston Rockets
Brandan Wright was released by the Houston Rockets on Friday. Wright signed with the Rockets after being bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies and was immediately hit with a right knee injury. The former UNC big man underwent surgery on it and would not have been able to return this season, so he will rehab with the Rockets without officially being on their roster.
UNC And FSU Split Friday Double Header, Heels Outscore Noles 19-14

North Carolina Softball Outlasts Notre Dame, 7-4
Thanks to a five-run third inning, North Carolina topped Notre Dame in Friday's series opener for the 7-4 win behind Brittany Pickett's 15th complete game and four RBI from Indiana native Kristina Burkhardt. Despite Notre Dame's early two-run lead, Carolina fought back to take a five-run lead by the third inning and hold on through seven innings for the 7-4 win.
UNC Men's Tennis Stays Unbeaten In ACC Play With Win At Notre Dame
North Carolina stayed undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference men's tennis with a 6-1 win at No. 26 Notre Dame on Friday. Playing at Eck Tennis Center, the fifth-ranked Tar Heels improved to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the ACC while the Irish fell to 10-9 (2-2). Next up for UNC is a home match with top-ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
