Jill Shippee Becomes Third UNC Track and Field Athlete to Break a School Record This Season


Participating in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville on Saturday, North Carolina freshman Jillian Shippee broke the school’s all-time record in the hammer throw event–recording a distance of 63.19 meters on her first attempt to both break the record and win the competition. The previous UNC record in the event was set by Laura Gerraughty back in 2003. (Chapelboro.com)
