When basketball is the game and the game is on the line, it has always been a pretty good idea to turn to Michael Jordan. Dean Smith learned that more than 20 years ago, when Jordan was a gangly freshman at North Carolina surrounded by future NBA stars. On the night that Smith won his first national championship, in New Orleans in 1982, he turned to young Jordan to hit the game-winning shot that preceded Fred Brown's blunder and James Worthy's steal and Carolina's dramatic win over Georgetown.
