Everett Case enjoyed his supremacy for five years, until UNC convinced a fiery Irishman named Frank McGuire to leave St. John’s in 1952 to take the helm of a Tar Heels team that was reeling from a 12-15 season and 14 straight losses to Case’s Wolfpack. Suddenly Case had a formidable rival, and it didn’t take long for McGuire to herald his intention to unseat UNC’s neighbors.
