There have been worse Saturdays in the annals of Atlantic Coast Conference football, it's just that few people younger than Bobby Bowden can remember any. Within the same several hours, Virginia lost at home to Western Michigan, Southern Miss clobbered N.C. State, Miami suffered a 31-7 humiliation at Louisville, UNC barely held off I-AA Furman, Boston College survived Brigham Young in double overtime, and Florida State fell out of the top 10.
