In a match that produced only seven shots on goal, second-ranked North Carolina reaped the benefit of first-half goals from freshmen Whitney Engen and Ali Hawkins to defeat No. 16 Virginia 2-0 in women's soccer action at Klockner Stadium. Sophomore Anna Rodenbough made three second-half saves as the Tar Heels shutout the Cavaliers for the first time in 1999.
