Irish Tops UNC in Surprising Shootout
Posted Nov 5, 2006
On the same field where countless football legends were born, North Carolina discovered its offense and hung with Notre Dame in a game not indicative of the teams’ inverted records. The Irish kept the Tar Heels at an arm’s length, however, en route to a 45-26 victory Saturday at historic Notre Dame Stadium. In the end, inconsistent pass defense, special teams’ mistakes and several fourth quarter personal foul calls kept UNC (1-8) from having a chance to pull off the biggest upset of the college football season.
