Smith says Knight is worthy successor
Posted Dec 13, 2006
Dean Smith will soon lose a record that he never wanted in the first place. Nobody in the history of major-college basketball has more coaching wins than Smith, who amassed 879 at North Carolina in 36 seasons. But Bob Knight of Texas Tech is closing fast and has 877. If Texas Tech wins its next three games, Knight will ascend to No. 1 on Dec. 28, and Smith will drop into second place.
