Thousands pay tribute to Red Wings star Gordie Howe

The old. The young. The known. The anonymous. They lined up outside around the southwest corner of Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday, sometimes more than 300 deep in the early afternoon. The woolen, long-sleeved No. 9 winged wheel sweaters that many wore not exactly meshing well with the springtime heat. But those paying tribute to Gordie Howe patiently waited for as long as two hours without complaint.
