UNC's stiff defense overwhelms Rutgers

North Carolina swarmed Rutgers last night with relentless defense, backed by torrid 3-point shooting after halftime, and won 87-48 in the Smith Center for its eighth consecutive victory. The Tar Heels, forcing 18 turnovers and 36.2 percent shooting, pulled away with ease after surviving a struggle in the first half. Freshman guard ignited a 20-5 scoring run in the first eight minutes of the second half. (Winston-Salem Journal)
