Lifeless first half, substandard defense cost U.Va. in ACC tourney loss to UNC


North Carolina defeated Virginia 71-67 Friday in an ACC tournament semifinal dripping with late drama and replete with individual brilliance. But what the defending champion Cavaliers will most recall is a lifeless first half in which they fell behind 8-1, trailed by as many as 11 and ceded control to the Tar Heels. “We were rattled defensively and offensively,” Cavaliers forward Darion Atkins said.
