Student vigil honored Dean Smith’s social justice efforts
Posted Feb 11, 2015
Students gathered around a makeshift memorial outside of the Dean E. Smith Center Tuesday night. The wind blew through the North Carolina and UNC flags, which were lowered to half-staff in honor of the man after whom the building was named. In the wake of Smith’s death Saturday night, student groups dedicated to diversity planned the event in an attempt to continue the dialogue of Smith’s contributions to civil rights and humanitarian efforts across the state and country.
