The best of times: the “Golden Era” at UNC (1945-1950)

Most UNC alumni consider their time in Chapel Hill as the best. I grew up in North Carolina during the late 1940s and early ‘50s and I remember that period as being the best. Many at Carolina, however, describe the years between VJ-Day (“Victory over Japan Day” celebrated on 2 September 1945 in the United States) and the Korean War—the years 1945 through 1950—as UNC’s “Golden Era.” (A View to Hugh)
