The UNC women's golf team played steady golf and stands tied for eighth place after the first round of the NCAA East Regional. Carolina fired a two-over-par 290 total, nine strokes behind leader UCLA, at The University Club which features a par 72, 6,403-yard layout. "I was pleased with our play," said Tar Heel head coach Sally Austin. "We would like to have finished a little stronger, but we've got two days left to play and we're still in the hunt."
