Tar Heels recruit 7 in baseball

North Carolina's incoming crop of baseball newcomers was finalized at Friday's midnight signing deadline when shortstop Matt Harrison and right-hander Jimmy Messer, who were selected in the major league draft, elected to join the Tar Heels' program and did not sign professional contracts. Messer, a South Caldwell High star, was a 44th-round pick by the Oakland A's, while Harrison went in the 46th round to the Atlanta Braves. (Raleigh News & Observer)
