Barden Berry tied for third at U.S. Amateur

Seven of the eight golfers representing either UNC or Duke are in contention to qualify for match play halfway through medal play at the 108th U.S. Amateur, but just one is even close to feeling secure about reaching the next stage. Recent UNC graduate Barden Berry fired a 2-under par 68 on Monday to tie for third place through the first of two qualifying rounds. Six other local golfers are in an extremely deep pack near the cut line. (Durham Herald-Sun)
