MLB could skim cream off UNC crop
Posted Jun 7, 2007
The strength of the North Carolina baseball team in the immediate future will be determined by the willingness that three Major League Baseball teams show in meeting the demands of a trio of teen-agers between now and the start of classes at UNC in August. Madison Bumgarner, Matt Harvey and Rick Porcello are hard-throwing, high-school pitchers who signed with Carolina in December 2006. This afternoon, professional baseball is expected to reveal what it thinks of UNC coachMike Fox's recruiting class by selecting those three in the first round of the MLB draft.
