Engine builder Danny Lawrence had a unique duty on race days back when Dale Earnhardt drove the No. 3 car at Richard Childress Racing. He was the crewman who helped buckle Earnhardt into the vehicle. So for Lawrence, seeing the No. 3 on the side of the Sprint Cup car Sunday — just two days short of the 13th anniversary of Earnhardt's death in the 2001 Daytona 500 — gave him mixed emotions at Daytona International Speedway.
