THE NEXT BIG TIGER? Phenom Porcello likely to demand big money

Thursday, June 14, 2007

Simply put, if Porcello asks for a major league deal, as Josh Beckett did in 1999, the Tigers could have a difficult decision to make. Here's why: The Tigers and Porcello must agree to terms prior to the new Aug. 15 signing date, or he's headed to the University of North Carolina. And if he signs a major league deal rather than a minor league deal -- again, a hypothetical -- he would be added to the 40-man roster. (Detroit Free Press)
