New state of North Carolina ticket tax for sporting events coming Jan. 1

A new law taking effect with the new year will extend a 4.75 percent state sales tax to tickets for entertainment events, including college and professional sports. News 14 reports that teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes with the NHL have been fighting the tax for years, with team Senior Vice President and General Counsel William Traurig telling the station that the team can't absorb the additional cost, which will be passed along to fans.
