It is more than appropriate that Dean Smith received the Presidential Medal of Freedom two days before the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination. It was President Kennedy who began bestowing the honor on what is now 550 American heroes but, more importantly and to use a little sports jargon, Smith was a huge fan and supporter of the 35th President.
