UNC Basketball Recruiting Roundup: Vaughn, Rabb, Zimmerman, Jeter, Woods, etc.
Monday, October 14, 2013
It was a busy week for UNC basketball recruiting as Roy Williams and Hubert Davis made a visit to the West coast to visit Rashad Vaughn, Ivan Rabb, Stephen Zimmerman, and Chase Jeter.
Rashad Vaughn (2014 shooting guard):
Roy Williams was one of several coaches to visit Rashad Vaughn, the top remaining target in UNC's 2014 recruiting class
. Vaughn has yet to reschedule his visit to North Carolina, originally set for September 28th, stating that he wants to attend a basketball game. Vaughn is scheduled to visit Baylor on October 18th, Iowa State on November 8th, and UNLV on November 25th.
There was also an interesting rumor floating around
that two of Iowa State's coaches had discussed Vaughn's recruitment with an Iowa State student newspaper editor. This would be a potential NCAA violation, but the writer recanted his encounter with the coaches, citing a mix-up on his part. There's likely nothing to this story, but it did cause a slight buzz when the writer first reported it.
Ivan Rabb (2015 power forward):
Roy Williams also visited power forward Ivan Rabb, who attends Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd High School. Rabb, it seems, does indeed have a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels. Up to this point, there had been conflicting reports on whether Rabb had an offer from the Tar Heels or not. Here are some recent video highlights of Rabb
at last weekend's USA Basketball Developmental Camp.
Stephen Zimmerman and Chase Jeter Receive UNC Offers:
Williams stopped by Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas on Wednesday to check in on 2015 center Stephen Zimmerman and his teammate, fellow 2015 center Chase Jeter. On Thursday, Zimmerman received a scholarship offer
from Williams. On Friday, Jeter received an offer as well
. It's clear now that Williams is looking for multiple post players in UNC's 2015 class.
Jayson Tatum (2016 small forward):
Tatum was one of the top players at last weekend's USA Basketball Developmental Camp. Roy Williams has made Tatum a top priority, given the fact that Tatum is the second youngest recruit to receive an offer from Williams during his tenure at UNC. Here are some of Tatum's video highlights
from last weekend's camp. Tatum will be visiting Kentucky on October 18th for their "Big Blue Madness" event.
Seventh Woods (2016 point guard):
Woods (6'2, 175, Hammond School, Columbia, SC) is potentially the top guard in the 2016 class, and as such, has received a lot of press over the past week. He's still growing
, as one would expect of a 14-year-old basketball prodigy. And he's even been compared to a young LeBron James
, although his mother doesn't like the comparison. Judge for yourself with these recent video highlights
Various Recruiting News & Notes:
2015 center Diamond Stone
holds a UNC offer, and now we've got some new footage of Stone from the USA Basketball Camp
2015 center Elijah Thomas
has cut his list of schools to a less-unwieldy top-24, and UNC made the cut as one would expect from a list that large.
Here's a nice article
on 2016 power forward Harry Giles
and his ongoing rehabilitation from a severe knee injury he sustained over the summer.
2014 shooting guard Ahmed Hill
had been on UNC's recruiting radar until recently. Hill committed to Marquette on Saturday. Related: Basketball Recruiting, Chase Jeter
